Martha Clarke’s Cheri Extends Before Opening at the Pershing Square Signature Center

Colette’s classic 1920 novella Cheri has come back to life at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center, and due to popular demand, the production has been extended for an additional week. Initially slated to run through December 22, Cheri will now play a limited engagement through December 29 at the Irene Diamond Stage.

Directed, conceived and choreographed by Martha Clarke, the production stars ballet dancers Herman Cornejo and Alessandra Ferri, as well as Oscar nominee Amy Irving. Featuring text by playwright Tina Howe, the show is a fusion of dance, theater and live music that tells the tragic story of Cheri and her six-year affair with Lea, an aging courtesan. The tale of forbidden love between a young man and an older woman in Belle Epoque Paris is a powerful exploration of sensuality and love.

Cheri features scenic and costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, sound design by Arthur Solari and Samuel Crawford and music supervision by Sarah Rothenberg.
